LTC Sean K. O’Brien, PharmD, MPH, BCCCP, BCPS, is the Chief, Inpatient Pharmacy and Pharmacy Readiness at Brooke Army Medical Center (BAMC) in San Antonio, Texas. He joined the Army in 2010, where his first assignment was at Bassett Army Community Hospital, Fort Wainwright, Alaska as Assistant Chief, Pharmacy Services. After approximately a year, he deployed to Afghanistan as the Division Pharmacist with the 10th Mountain Division Surgeon Cell in Kandahar. He then completed a Pharmacy Practice Residency at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center (WRNMMC), Bethesda. His next assignments were Deputy, Clinical Pharmacy and Chief, Population Health at WRNMMC. He then was stationed at Fort Riley, Kansas, serving as Chief, Pharmacy Services at Irwin Army Community Hospital, where he also completed a Master of Public Health (MPH) degree from Des Moines University. His next assignment was Chief, Ancillary Services at the United States Army Health Clinic—Vicenza, Italy, overseeing pharmacy, laboratory, and radiology operations. He then completed a Post Graduate Year-2 (PGY-2) Critical Care Pharmacy Residency at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts and became a Board Certified Critical Care Pharmacist. His current assignment is Chief, Inpatient Pharmacy and Pharmacy Readiness at BAMC.
An honor graduate of the Command and General Staff College Intermediate Level Education, Common Core, his awards include the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (1OLC), Army Commendation Medal (2 OLC), the Joint Service Commendation Medal, the Joint Service Achievement Medal, and the Army Achievement Medal (3 OLC).
