Commander Carl Powell, PharmD, Branch Chief of Pharmacy and Infectious Disease at DHA MEDLOG is a native of Albuquerque, New Mexico. He was commissioned as a Lieutenant in the United States Navy in 2011. He earned his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of New Mexico in 2011. He earned his Masters of Military Operational Arts and Sciences through the Air Force Air Command and Staff College in 2020. His first assignment was to Naval Hospital Rota, Spain, serving as Assistant Department Head. His follow-on duty station was Naval Medical Center San Diego where he also served as Assistant Department Head and deployed onboard the USNS Mercy in support of the multinational Pacific Partnership 2015. CDR Powell was then assigned to Naval Branch Health Clinic Atsugi, Japan where he was the Department Head for Primary Care. Following Japan, he served at NMRTC Guantanamo Bay as the Director of Public Health. His current assignment is DHA MEDLOG where he is Branch Chief of Pharmacy and Infectious Disease overseeing the Shelf Life Extension Program, Pandemic Influenza Stockpile Program, and the Joint Deployment Formulary. Additionally, he proudly serves as the Chair of the Navy Pharmacy Advisory Board.
His military awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, four Navy and Marine Corps Commendation medals, three Navy and Marine Corps Achievement medals, Joint Meritorious Unit Commendation, Coast Guard Meritorious Team Commendation, and various service related awards and campaign ribbons. He is a qualified Surface Warfare Medical Department Officer.
CDR Powell’s family includes his wife, Aubrie, and their two children, son Brady (7 yo) and daughter Sevi (6 yo).
