She attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison where she received a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy and was commissioned as an Ensign in the United States Navy in 1995. In 2004 she earned her Doctor of Pharmacy Degree from Idaho State University and in 2005, a Masters in Pharmacy and an American Society of Health Systems Pharmacists Accredited Specialized Residency in Health System Pharmacy Administration at the University of Wisconsin. She completed a Clinical Informatics Fellowship at the DoD/VA Interagency Program Office in 2013.
Her tours of duty include National Naval Medical Center, Bethesda, MD; Office of the Attending Physician, U.S. Capitol, Washington DC; Naval Hospital, Naples, Italy; Naval Medical Center Portsmouth, Portsmouth, VA; Naval Health Clinic, Great Lakes, IL; Captain James A. Lovell Federal Health Care Center in North Chicago, IL; Defense Health Agency, Arlington, VA; and Bureau of Medicine and Surgery.
Notable achievements include serving as subject matter expert developing pharmacy interoperability solutions where she testified to members of Congress, House/Senate Armed Service committee staffers, and senior policy advisors for DoD and VA Health Affairs on quality control and patient safety. She championed local groundbreaking DoD/VA laboratory and radiology orders portability, coordinating business requirements and change management with local and external agencies to ensure safety issues were addressed by developers before implementation. Leading a $600,000 renovation project, she brought Naval Medical Center Portsmouth into compliance with sterile product compounding regulations. She became the first pharmacist in the Office of Attending Physician, U.S. Capitol to be both ACLS and EMT certified in support of the U.S. Capitol counter-terrorist medical support and emergency medical teams. As Chair of the Navy Pharmacy Advisory Board, she was responsible for optimizing the delivery of the pharmacy benefit for 9.2 million Tricare beneficiaries worldwide.
